Patrick Lema is an interdisciplinary artist from Sacramento, California. Primarily working within the mediums of performance art, avant garde jazz, technology, and poetry, Patrick pushes against the notion of what art is and can be. His most recent work deals with using acoustic drums connected to reactive visuals/videos to narrate stories through improvisation. Coding softwares such as Arduino and TouchDesigner help this process by turning rhythms into evolving visual environments. This approach to “holistic” art extends beyond solo performance into collaborative settings. Group works often draw from Patrick’s scores, graphic notation, and poetry (where text becomes both framework and improvisational guide). Patrick’s works have led him to receive an artist residency at MusicLandria and, most recently, the Creative Growth Fellowship. Patrick continues to expand his art forms, blurring the boundary between performance, installation, narrative, and environment.
